Rosh Chodesh Iyar is here!
Many of us are trying to find our footing after a long Pesach season and at the same time, want to put in our effort to tap into the tremendous koach of sefirah days. It can be very overwhelming. We all have so much to do and yet wish we could include growth on our to-do list, too!
I have a thought I want to share with you.
There is a common question asked why we count 'hayom yom echad la'omer' - day one of the omer, day two of the omer etc, rather than counting counting down the days in anticipation - like those popular wedding countdowns.
Perhaps the reason is because Hashem understands us. He knows how hard it is to have a 49 day workout list. He knows how overwhelming it is to have such a big job ahead of us. So He tells us, no - you don't have to look at the long way ahead. Do it the opposite - you accomplished your goal for one day? Great, celebrate! Hayom yom echad l'aomer! You did one whole day! And tomorrow you'll accomplish something small again? Even better - Hayom shnei yamim la'omer! And you did a whole week? Make a party! Hayom shiva yamim - she'heim shavua ached la'omer!
Keep on going! Celebrate every day you manage, celebrate every minute you manage! Every small step leads you one step closer to your own personal Kabalas haTorah!
(Based on the Sefer Hachinuch)
Let's Write!1. Try to remember yourself sitting at the seder, your tefilla on yom tov, or your preparation for Pesach in our class. What did you wish for? What was your dream that you wished would happen?
Write it out in one sentence.
2. What is one small pitzy step that you can take each day as a hishtadlus toward this goal. The same small pitzy step that if you do it each day, it can have a real effect on you.
3. You're going to make your own sefirah growth chart now. Make yourself a box for each coming day and you can mark off when you accomplish that really small step each day. When you mark it off, you can count the sefirah. Hayom....
This is a very easy, but very powerful way that we can each pave our way to Kabalas HaTorah.
