Rosh Chodesh Sivan 🌻

Rosh Chodesh Sivan is here and that means Shavuos is coming.

Shavuos is coming and that means preparing, cooking, baking, and more. But it also means preparing ourselves from the inside. Shavuos is called Zman Matan Toraseinu, the time that Hashem is giving the Torah.

At Matan Torah, Hashem didn't start with Bereishis and the story of creation. Hashem started with Anochi Hashem Elokecha, to tell us that Torah is Hashem! Hashem is saying “Torah is Me!” The Gemara in שבת מסכת teaches us that the word anochi stands for: אנא נפשי כתבית יהבית. Anochi is an acronym for ana nafshi kesivas yehavis, “I (Hashem) have put My soul into the Torah.”

What does this mean for ladies?

It is interesting to note that the word Torah is female! You see this from Rashi on כתבו לי את התורה הזאת.

This is because being a mekabel, a receiver, is a feminine trait. The term Kabbalas HaTorah is used because in order for someone to really learn Torah, he needs to be mekabel it, to accept and receive it.

Hashem is constantly giving the Torah, and we need to be here to receive it. A woman is naturally a mekabel, a receiver. Women are innately connectors. In order to connect to Hashem and receive the Torah, we have to be vessels and containers to accept it.

And so, in another four days, there will be a Zman Matan Torah, the auspicious time that Hashem is giving the Torah. It's up to us to decide if we will have a Kabalas HaTorah, if we will choose to receive the Torah.

Wishing you a wonderful Yom Tov!

Yocheved
